Staff stage safety stand down

The entire Hanson UK business came to a stop for two hours on May 26 for a co-ordinated health and safety stand-down.

The first hour comprised of a conference call hosted by the sustainability department which included various tool box training talks covering machinery guarding, working at height, lock off and isolation and how to conduct a ‘Take One’ dynamic risk assessment. The second hour was spent in the workplace identifying and assessing potential risks and completing a review form.

Letters were sent our customers and suppliers spelling out what we were doing and why.

Head of sustainability Paul Lacey said the over-riding aim behind the initiative was to get everyone thinking solely about safety: “The stand-down sent out a strong message to the business, our contractors, drivers and customers about our commitment to health and safety and we plan to repeat it every year.”
